Job Description

About LIFI

At Learning Initiatives for India (LIFI), we work with children whose education has been disrupted by migration, poverty, and other circumstances that make continued learning difficult. Through Community Teacher Leaders (CTLs), government partnerships, and community-led learning spaces, we strive to build a sustainable ecosystem for Children Experiencing Education Discontinuity (CEED).

Our vision is simple yet powerful: पढ़ेगा हर बच्चा, बढ़ेगा हर बच्चा।

As LIFI continues to strengthen its programmes and internal systems, we recognise that a supportive and well-organised people ecosystem is essential to our mission. Our Human Resources function focuses on ensuring that team members have access to the information, support, and systems they need throughout their journey with the organisation.

About the Role

We are looking for an organised, curious, and responsible HR Assistant to work closely with the Senior Associate – Human Resources and support the implementation of LIFI’s HR processes and initiatives.

The primary focus of this role is implementation, coordination, documentation, and follow-through. The HR Assistant will help ensure that established processes are executed smoothly, records remain accurate, stakeholders receive timely communication, and pending tasks are followed through to completion.

The role is primarily implementation-focused and will also involve supporting the implementation of HR policies, processes, and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), identifying gaps in execution, and bringing them to the attention of the reporting manager.

This is a suitable opportunity for someone beginning their career in HR who is looking to gain hands-on experience across the employee lifecycle, enjoys working with people and systems, and is willing to learn through practical experience.

Over time, the HR Assistant is expected to develop a sound understanding of LIFI’s people processes and take increasing ownership of routine HR activities, contributing to a more efficient, responsive, and supportive People & Culture function.

  • Ensure candidates receive timely communication and have a smooth, respectful recruitment experience.

2. Onboarding & Team Member Lifecycle Management

Coordinate the documentation and implementation of processes throughout a team member’s journey at LIFI.

  • Coordinate joining formalities, including the collection and verification of required documents and information.
  • Support offer letters, appointment letters, contracts, and other onboarding documentation.

  • Ownership, adaptability, and a learning orientation.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Psychology, Social Work, or a related discipline. Candidates from other academic backgrounds with a demonstrated interest in HR may also be considered.
  • Freshers and candidates with up to one year of relevant experience in HR, administration, coordination, or a related field are welcome to apply.
  • Basic computer skills and familiarity with documents, spreadsheets, and email.
  • Willingness to learn and work across different HR functions.
  • An interest in people management, organisational systems, and the development sector.

What Success Looks Like

Success in this role means ensuring that the day-to-day implementation of HR processes is organised, timely, and reliable.

  • Recruitment stages, candidate communication, and hiring trackers are updated consistently.
  • Onboarding, probation, contract renewals, and exit formalities are completed and documented within agreed timelines.
  • Attendance, leave, HRMS, insurance, and payroll inputs are maintained accurately, with discrepancies flagged on time.
  • HR documents, records, and trackers remain organised and up to date.
  • Pending tasks and approvals are followed up on without repeated intervention from the reporting manager.
  • Team members receive timely responses and clear guidance on routine HR processes.
  • Approved policies and SOPs are implemented consistently, and process gaps are brought to the reporting manager’s attention.
  • Sensitive information is handled responsibly, and complex people matters are escalated appropriately.
