Youwaaz program

Youwaaz – Empowering Youth, Transforming Communities
Youwaaz is a youth leadership and civic engagement initiative being established in Purkhas Rathi village, Sonipat, Haryana, with the aim of training and collectivizing 150 young people into a strong, united group of active citizens. These youth will come together regularly for weekly meetings, workshops, exposure visits, and most importantly, to take action by implementing social action projects that address real issues in their communities.
Through experiential learning and a deeper understanding of the Indian Constitution, Yuwaaz empowers youth to lead themselves, their families, and their peers, becoming catalysts for grassroots change. The program is built around the belief that when youth understand their rights, duties, and the systems that govern them, they can lead their communities toward a more inclusive and just future.
Why Youwaaz?
In many rural areas, youth lack opportunities and platforms to express themselves, develop leadership, and understand their civic role. Youwaaz bridges this gap by equipping young people with the tools, knowledge, and confidence to transform their own futures and that of their communities.
The youth will be trained across three major domains – Skills, Knowledge, and Mindsets – to build their capacity as leaders and responsible citizens.
Skills Developed:
- Effective Communication
- Group Facilitation
- Critical Thinking
- Goal Setting and Planning
- Project Management
Knowledge Areas:
- The Indian Constitution – values, rights, and duties
- Community, Culture, and Identity
- Local Governance and Social Issues
Mindsets Built:
- Problem-solving approach
- Collaborative thinking
- Research and Inquiry mindset
- Responsibility and Accountability
- Creativity and Solution Orientation
Program Activities Include:
The Yuwaaz journey begins with the mobilization and selection of youth volunteers through engaging outreach methods such as posters, banners, newspaper ads, reels, door-to-door visits, performances at Akhadas, campaigns in local colleges, and Nukkad Nataks.
Selected youth then participate in an intensive 5–6 day Gram Camp, which offers an immersive experience rooted in self-discovery, friendship building, and community understanding. The camp covers:
- Personal growth and leadership through self-exploration
- Deep dive into the Constitution and how it connects to daily life
- Fun, peer learning, and team-building activities
- Learning to mobilize others, engage youth, and build relationships
- Village mapping to identify local issues
- Training in facilitation, youth engagement, and project planning
- Exposure to common social and developmental challenges in Haryana
- Creating a 3-month action plan to drive community change
Social Action Projects:
After the camp, the youth groups design and implement community-based projects that solve local problems and promote civic participation. These projects are led entirely by the youth and supported through mentorship and planning tools.
Their actions may include awareness campaigns, health and hygiene drives, education support, career workshops, or engaging with local governance structures like the Gram Sabha.
Impact Goals:
- Formation of a strong, sustainable youth collective in the village – 150 youth by 2028
- Increased civic awareness and local participation
- Youth-led development in rural Ganaur.
- Long-term mindset shift from passive to active citizenship
- Career readiness and leadership development among rural youth
